    Protecta Köderstation

Works perfectly! I used them in combination with the T-Rex trap and they worked perfectly. I left out the rat attractant and just used peanut butter - worked fine, although liquid attractant is probably faster if you have a lot of traps. I have 3 dogs and wanted to be sure they weren't poisoned or tripped the trap. I live 1/4 mile from the ocean in MA so wharf rats are looking for a home at this time of year - the stone foundation of my 100+ year old house probably has some gaps and a rat got in there a few years ago - no fun at all. I placed several Protecta stations/T-Rex traps around the perimeter/exterior of my foundation and got a rat within a few days. I can't recall if there is a bait station with a see through top - if so that would save the hassle of having to open the box to see if you have a 'catch' or not.

We've circled the perimeter of our 3 acre property with these bait boxes using Supersize Blox bait and our home has been rodent free for over a year. We replace the bait every 6-8 weeks (and also add snail bait to the box). Knowing we are rodent free is worth every penny.

I use the Protecta Bait Stations with Contrac Blox rat baits. Here in Arizona we have a huge pack rat problem. I've used T-Rex traps, but the rats get trap-shy. I am very happy with the stations. They keep out rain and keep the birds and rabbits away. I tried putting a T-Rex trap in it, but wish you could see inside the box before opening it. A couple of times I opened the station to see a still alive rat trapped in the trap. A clear plastic window would help. Otherwise a great product. After three weeks I can't find any evidence of rats anywhere!

    Protecta bait station for rats

    By Thomas on 10/02/2010

The device was delivered before the expected time. Once I realize that all I have to do is make it look like the picture of the open station on the website, the station is easy to set up. The included spanner lock and allen key combination is much better than any dedicated lock and key in other models. Because smaller packs (1 pound or less) are not available online, baits must be purchased from local Home Depot or Lowes stores. Watch out for dead rats in the bushes!

Q

Are rabbits also attracted and eaten by the poisoned bait?

I want to protect my yard by using bait stations near our shed which is next to our yard. Will these baits attract rabbits in addition to rats and squirrels?

A

TheRodentizidBaits are labeled for rats and mice only and are designed to attract these types of rodents. That's not to say it doesn't attract other rodents like a rabbit, and if a rabbit eats enough of the bait it would die.

Q

Can a rat once trapped in the Protecta rat bait station come out?

A

That's the only way a rat would get inProtecta bait station for ratsand not coming out is when you have placed aT-Rex rat trapkilled the rat in it. The stations have holes for rodents to get in and out of, are child resistant and have a locking mechanism that prevents children and pets from accessing the interior. Some people place rodent poison in the station for the rats to eat. If this were the case, the rat would be able to get in the trap, eat the bait, and get out. Only if you place themT-Rex Snap Trap inside, the rat would not be able to leave the station.

Q

How do you "clean" a Protecta bait station and remove spoiled bait?

I bought the Contrac Blox and the Protecta Bait Station. The instructions say to remove spoiled baits and to keep the stations "clean" otherwise the mice will avoid the station. How do you recommend such a cleaning? I've had several stations that drop "mold" baits as well as numerous mice, but I'm not sure if bleaching cleaning procedures will drive the mice off the stations themselves. Please help!

A

CleanProctecta Rattenköderstationshould consist only of removing the spoiled bait, wiping with a cloth or brushing out the station with a clean brush and rinsing with water if necessary to remove any residue. They make the stations less attractive if you clean them with harsh detergents.

Q

How often should you change the rodent bait in a Protecta rat bait station?

A

When using a bait station like theProtecta bait station for rats, replacing the bait depends on how much activity there is. You should initially check the bait stations daily to monitor the level at which the rodents are consuming the bait. The key to control is keeping enough bait in the station to feed the population around the structure. The goal is that the stations are never empty when rodents enter to look for food. You may need to replace the bait daily at first, but as the population decreases you will need to add the bait much less frequently (once a week or even once a month). Baits should also be replaced when infested with insects or moldy.

Q

Is it legal to leave rat poison out on my property in the woods without a bait station like the Protecta rat bait stations?

I was wondering if this is legal as wild animals and our neighbors dogs walk on our property quite often.

A

By law, most rodenticides must be used in tamper evident bait stations when used outdoors to prevent non-target animals and humans from accessing the bait and being accidentally poisoned. Others are also approved for cave baiting. Most baits must also be used within 50 feet of structures. Please refer to the product label of the rodenticide you intend to useProtecta bait station for rats.
